River Barada crosses the city of Damascus and waters its ancient Orchards.It flows out of Lake Barada in the Zabadani Valley, 30km to the north west of Damascus.The river is propped up by Al-Fijeh Water Spring as it enters the city, where it branches out into seven streams.Its ancient Aramaean man-made irrigation system is considered to be one of the most sophisticated ancient waterway systems in the world.
