The Orchards of Damascus

Damascus, Damascus, Syria
Many had described the Orchards of Damascus as one of the wonders of the world.

The lush vegetation that surrounded the city was home to numerous kinds of trees such apricot, pair, peach, plum, mulberry and walnut.

It is thanks to these orchards that Damascus, situated on the edge of a great arid zone, has been an oasis and a shelter for many over the centuries.

Regrettably, due to the exploding population growth and poor urban planning, what remains of these orchards today is a small fraction of what they used to be in the past.
