The Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent commissioned this 16th century complex.Al-Tekiya Al-Suleimaniya used to serve as a school, a mosque and a kitchen distributing food to the pilgrims heading from Anatolia to Mecca. Designed by the famous Ottoman architect Sinan, Al-Tekiya Al-Suleimaniya was built on the site where the palace of the Mamluk Sultan Baibars used to stand before being destroyed by Timurlenk.Today, this beautiful monument is host to the National War Museum as well as the Handicrafts Bazaar.
